Integrative cancer treatment isn’t a buzzword or a recent trend, it is a matter of common sense. Treating cancer should focus on expanding the boundaries of conventional care by bringing together traditional tools for fighting cancer, such as surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy, with complementary therapies, including nutritional support, naturopathic medicine, mind-body medicine, oxygen therapies, oncology rehabilitation, pain management, and spiritual support.
Integrative cancer therapy or Integrative Oncology is committed to treating the whole person—not just the disease—using leading-edge medical technology and innovative medical therapies. With a unique approach that draws from many available resources remission is possible…we have all heard the stories of people beating cancer…Lance Armstrong is living proof!
When we employ Western medical advances, evidenced based breakthroughs, Traditional Chinese approaches and hi-tech diagnostics with innovative customized programs formulated by a group of highly compassionate doctors, nurses, clinicians, therapists, and staff members the results can be miraculous, but this would all not be possible without a meeting of many paths.
Integrative cancer therapy is the middle path that aims to join many approaches to achieve the best possible result for the patient…everyone that enters an integrative facility or hospital is part of a growing community that receives devout close compassionate care.
When the traditional method of treatment by chemotherapy, devoid of any alternative or complimentary care was studied, in the British journal, “Clinical Oncology,” in December, 2004, entitled, “The Contribution of Cytotoxic Chemotherapy to 5-Year Survival in Adult Malignancies.”
The authors, one medical oncologist and two radiation oncologists, analyzed the results of all randomized clinical trials performed in the U.S. and Australia, that reported a statistically significant increase in 5-year survival due to the use of chemotherapy in adult malignancies.
The trials that were analyzed were performed for 15 years on one of the largest groups. The authors’ conclusions were the following:
• 5-year survival in Australia was 2.3%
• 5-year survival in US was 2.1%
• Lung cancer survival increased by 2 months in the past 20 years
An overall survival benefit of less than 5% had been achieved in the treatment of breast, colon, and head and neck cancers.
This study clearly proved that we need to shift our focus toward an integrative form of cancer treatment and that we need to put that effort in place as soon as possible.
Surgery, Radiation, Chemotherapy, and pain management are all considered possible tools in the care it takes to reverse the severe cancer related conditions…in addition hyperthermia, IV drips, oxygen therapies, auto-immunization, homeopathy, vaccines, live cell therapy immune cell booster protocols, herbs, and meditation-vipassana need to be taken into stronger consideration.
In addition, hypnotherapy, kineseology, family counseling, and spiritual support, although least mentioned, must be accepted as essentials keys in a well rounded integrative approach.
Although there is no “Silver Bullet” cure for cancer, many patients can heal their disease and add years, sometimes decades, to their lives with quality.
The best cancer Survival statistics show successful outcomes in cases that used alternative cancer treatments that enhanced conventional therapies with natural elements, nutrition, exercise, counseling, education, meditation and uplifting activities. In the end, integrating and as many approaches to find a common path seems more and more the middle path to success.
